Office wear – How to look effortlessly smart

Dear Ladies,

Ever since I have started my full time job, I have started to wake up everyday with the same dilemma:
What am I gonna wear?!

Owning some key pieces can make your life easier and these can be reused in various outfits. In my experience, when working in an office you need to a few basics such as:

  • A few dresses
  • Tailored pants
  • Pencil Skirt
  • A few shirts
  • Court Shoes
  • Watch
  • A handbag that goes with everything!

I drew up outfits for everyday of the week just to give you an idea… As you can see, with basic key pieces you can look smart everyday.

Monday is the hardest, isn’t it? Start the week with a simple outfit. Choose a non-iron dress the day before and you’re good to go. Court shoes make you smart but with that in mind, I would look for the most comfortable pair of shoes possible. I got a chunkier heel with an orthopedic sole and it was the best choice I ever made when it comes to shoes. One of the hairstyles can always be the bun – makes you look tidy and is a good solution when you are in between washes.

Office wear - Monday

Investing in a pair of tailored pants is vital. They are so smart and rather versatile. In summer, trousers also a good idea for those few days before you get waxed. As for earrings, I like to keep it simple and tidy and for this I think stud earrings are the best choice.

Office wear - Tuesday

The pencil skirt is another staple if you work in an office (see what I did there? :P). All the shirts/tops you wear with the tailored pants can be then reused in outfits with a pencil skirt. The look would be completely different and a skirt gives a more feminine touch.

Office wear - Wednesday

Once again I chose the tailored pants as they are the most comfortable in my opinion. Stuck with the stud earrings but played it up a little with a detailed collar top. A little pop of colour when including blue.

Office wear - Thursday

There are some days when you opt for ultimate comfort and ballerina shoes come in play. As for hairstyles, it is a good idea to change from day to day, keeping it simple not to take too long to get ready. A bun, a pony tail, braids and loose hair with accent accessories is the way to go.

Office wear - Friday

As for handbags, I only use one – I managed to find a 3-tone bag which (in my opinion) goes with everything. I wouldn’t suggest changing your bag everyday… Let’s just say that I’m too lazy to do it – But if you’re not, go ahead!

When it comes to colours, I kept it simple as these are more or less the colours we are allowed to wear since I work in front office. Depending on your job, you can play it up and be more adventurous with colours and patters.

These outfits have nothing out of the ordinary and these pieces can be found from any store at average prices. Coming to think of it, it’s not all that hard to choose what to wear to the office once you have the right numbers.

That’s all from my side… I hope you found this helpful and do let me know if you have any more tricks to always look smart at the place of work!

Oh, and I always wear a watch, but that’s just me  🙂

Outfit Post – Sunday Lunch

Dearest Ladies,

As I said on my Facebook page (don’t forget to like), it will be difficult for me to post regularly especially in the next 6 weeks since I am on a work placement. But here is something simple which didn’t take a lot of my time…

Today I will share with you an outfit post showing you what I wore yesterday to Sunday lunch with the family. I asked my mum to take my pictures but as you can note, we are still looking for a better spot to take photos for outfit posts. Truth is every spot in the house is full of stuff and the only nice clear wall is in an area with no light!

Here’s what I wore to her birthday lunch:

Dress: Orsay
Belt: Kiabi
Snood: Pieces (through
Bag: Parfois
Shoes: Random shop in Fgura 🙂

That’s all from my end. I hope you liked this outfit and I’d really love it if you suggested other ways I can make this look work 😉 Especially the bag… I find it hard to combine with outfits because of its shape!

5 things you would like about EYESHADOW STICKS

Dearest Ladies,

Today I’ll be talking about a particular product; a product which for some reason might not be your first choice. If that is the case, my assumption is that you’re just used to using the ‘traditional form’ of eyeshadow – I’m gonna show you just how much simpler and easier these products will make your makeup application!

Warning: You might want to try these after reading this post!

My Wjcon lasting colour stick eyeshadow: Rose Quartz 03, Tiger Eye 04, Turquoise 08

My e.l.f. Jumbo Eyeshadow Sticks

The PUPA Milano Long Lasting Eye Stylo in 004 Meteorite Green (Limited Edition)

I am talking about Eyeshadow Sticks (a.k.a Jumbo eyeshadow pencils and eye stylos). These are the ones I own and I will be comparing them to the ‘traditional from’, i.e. powder eyeshadow (loose/pressed/baked). This is why these sticks can be better than the eyeshadow you already have. I’ll also be comparing the brands (PUPA Milano, Wjcon and e.l.f.) in another post.

Here are all.things.lady‘s 5 reasons why you should get (at least one) eyeshadow stick/s.

They are:

  1. Clean and Tidy

I’ll start by stating the obvious: Loose eyeshadow can be messy… But, even pressed (compact) eyeshadow can be messy at times. It varies from one brand to the other depending on the quality. Stick eyeshadow, on the other hand, is the complete opposite: Mess free. You couldn’t make a mess using these products, not even if you tried really hard 😛

The packaging is usually very sturdy, so no lids will break (there aren’t any), and no shadows will break (these are not pressed). No… nothing like that. You can be as clumsy as you are (I know I am…) and drop them 10 times a day, it won’t ruin your product!

  2. Travel Friendly

Because of the type of packaging, these products are the perfect ‘candidates’ to carry in your handbag. You should not have any problems when it’s really hot outside… And the good thing is that if the product does melt a little bit, still: no problem there – you’ll actually be able to blend it more easily. (Don’t leave it on the bbq in summer… that is kinda pushing it :D)

The truth is that you do not even need to carry an eyeshadow/blending brush.  We have enough crap in our over-sized bags as it is! All you need is your ring finger… But I’ll tell you more about this in point #4.

  3. Very long-lasting

Depending on the brand, these products tend to be very long lasting. The last time I used a combination of them, I put my make up on at around 2pm, and it was still perfect by 11pm – honestly, I didn’t even need to retouch it once. Mind you, I walked in the sun for over half an hour…

Obviously, having a good eye make up remover is always a must. I use Clinians, but I’ve run out, I’m using Nivea till I repurchase, (which is good but Clinians is even better. Read my Nivea review here.) In most cases you won’t even need a primer, but when using a primer you are always on the safe side.

  4. Much Simpler

It’s not a case of being lazy. It’s a case of being practical. We don’t afford spending over half an hour daily applying makeup. We usually have a lot less than half an hour to get ready for school or work! And well… what do we do? We mostly use it for special occasions, cause that’s  the only time we have enough time to perfect our make up.

When blending, the heat of your own fingers makes the product warm up. This makes it easier and quicker than using brushes.

  5. Versatile

With just one eyeshadow stick, you can already create a good, polished look. If you want to mix it up, you can also use 2 or more and blend the colours well.

They can be used on their own and in most cases you won’t even need to set them. Some ladies choose to use them as a base to their powder eyeshadow. This creates a lovely blend of colours and will make your powder eyeshadow look even more vibrant. You can also play with these using an eyeliner brush for a fun coloured eyeliner. Some of them are actually marketed as stylos i.e. both an eyeshadow and an eyeliner.

I hope I gave you enough reasons to get at least 1 eyeshadow stick. I promise, if you choose the right brands, you will like them. And with these babies, your everyday makeup will be more fun and more colourful. You can still sleep those extra 5 minutes; you can apply these products in seconds. Add a little bit of mascara and you’re always good to go 😉

Good luck! Tell me your experiences with shadow sticks – as you know, I’d love know 🙂

OOTD – Date Night + Handbag Tag

Dearest Ladies,

I have an OOTD for you today, but it’s also a tag post from the lovely “Mammu” 🙂 She tagged me forever ago, but it was still on my “blog-posts-to-write” list. I’m talking about the “What’s in my date night purse?” tag post. This is her original post.

Me and my boyfriend have rather busy lives. He has his band (see their photo-shoot here), his teaching job and a full-time job – I have my studies, my dissertation, my blog and a few other things. It is therefore important for us to make time for each other. So yesterday, we went to an Indian restaurant – it was our first time trying the cuisine. We loved the food and wine and it was a really perfect date night.

I decided on the same bag that I wore in this ootd post, I got it from ASOS a while ago. I was going for the “New Look Clutch Bag 1”, shown in one of my first posts. But, while I love that bag, it is so small, it’s stressful – it’s too hard to fit all you really need in it. I borrowed one of my sister’s dresses (from New Look) and I wore it over sandals which I bought (and only wore) for a wedding.

This is all the crap that managed to fit in my bag:

  • My Phone
  • Tissues
  • My Keys (with my sizable key chains)
  • A Camera
  • A Catrice Lipstick (mentioned in a favourite’s post)
  • A box of Daygum Chewing gum
  • My ID Card

Yes, you might be wondering why I did not take my purse with me… For starters, it’s rather large, and secondly, this was my boyfriend’s treat. He saw me struggling to put it in the bag, and he reminded me that that was the deal from the beginning 🙂

I hope you like this look! I will try to post more regularly but as I said, it’s been a hectic couple of months.

Fashion Items in Unexpected Places – A Collaboration with PART 1

Dearest Ladies,

We live in a world where we get stuck in our ways. We shop at the same stores without realizing we are paying too much! Are we too afraid to look for fashion items elsewhere? I hope not! Why pay more when there are cheaper options for the same quality? How about surfing a site which gives you great deals all year round? I’m talking about Sports Granted, you might not think it’s your first choice for something fashionable, but if we search the website a little harder… We might realize, it can be!

(Every image in this post directs you to the item on Sports – Click the image to see sizes and prices!
It is best to open links in a new tab)

  1. Jeggings

Where in the world will you find jeggings at this price? If you have an answer, other than, spill! Their prices are unbeatable and the quality is very good. Why pay more for the same quality? I’d rather get two of these pairs instead 😀 I have one of these already and they are so so great. They are the most realistically detailed jeggings I have ever seen. Everyone will be fooled into thinking that you are wearing actual skinny jeans and not jeggings! The picture on the website doesn’t do them any justice, so look out for a post which will feature these jeggings in a greater detail, NEXT WEEK!

  2. Boots

Wow – (€12.81) for a pair of boots? That’s incredible. But do you know what is even more attractive than the price for me? The fact that they are PLAIN. Oh my, every time I look for boots, I always end up being disappointed. The ones which I do like have to have something which ruins them, a large buckle, glitter or fur… or well, something that makes them not perfect – unlike this one I’m showing you right here – which is in my opinion: the perfect wedged boot. Comfortable but Smart nonetheless.

And if you like to go for something a bit more “girly-gone-military” what about something like this one here for the same price?

  3. Sunglasses

You honestly cannot possibly find a better deal! Sunglasses (currently) at 3 euros – and they do NOT look cheap! Who cares if you manage scratch them after just one summer? You won’t need to feel too guilty, at least they do not cost a fortune!

  4. Hoodies

Sure, hoodies are not your most fashionable item, but they are comfortable and you can actually do a lot with them if you choose to be creative. (click here to go to the hoodie section)

My favourites are these one colour hoodies, which cost a bit more but are currently on sale, selling for below €6! Yes, the prices are unbelievable! There are so many colours to choose from. My first preference would be this coral red one (marked as red on the website):

I like this one too… I can imagine it over a number of garments.

  5. Cardigans

This green one is just gorgeous. These cardigans are very soft and there are so many colours to choose from. Without a doubt, SportsDirect is the best place for you to stock up with basics! At just (€6.99), you can have as many colours as you like. And well, a good cardigan is always a must. I can imagine this one with a pair of chinos and a mustard vest underneath – there are so many ways you can wear a cardigan!

Apart from all the different colours, we obviously have the option of getting it in black. Don’t we all NEED a black cardi?

That concludes PART 1 of this collaboration, ladies. Stay tuned for 5 other items from this incredible website in PART 2! I really hope you find this post useful. I agree, sometimes looking up clothing items until you actually select the few you are buying, can be tiring… But here I did all the work for you, so you should have no excuses! 😉

Let me know what’s in your cart at the moment 😉
