My 10 favourite products in 2016

Dearest Ladies,

Another year has come to an end! So a favourites post was bound to be written…

These below are my most used products in 2016 which made it to my favourites (in no particular order). I tried to pick a variety of products ranging from make up, skincare, brushes and other essentials.

  • BH Cosmetics Carli Bybel palette

This palette has become my favourite palette in a short period of time. It has the all colours I usually go for. Neutrals, warm bronzey and berry shades – both matte and shimmery. Not to mention the gorgeous highlighters! I find that it is the easiest palette to work with. Here’s what I had also gotten when I purchased this palette: My First BH Cosmetics Haul. This one is definitely a must have for me!

  • NYX Stay Matte But Not Flat Powder Foundation

This is a product I use daily and has made my life so much easier! It’s probably my third or fourth time purchasing it. I don’t usually like to wear foundation on a daily basis but this I can work with. It is light weight but still gives me just the right amount of coverage. For me it is just perfect for everyday use and on the go applications.

My only problem with this product is that I run out of it so quickly! 🙂

  • Beyu Perfect Finish Foundation

I got this one from Franks. The sales girl suggested it as I was looking for a high coverage foundation and it was fairly priced. It’s an average foundation but it does the job well and I did reach for it a good number of times. I like that it is has a powdery finish and does not need setting. What I don’t like is that it does not have a pump but I got used to that too. Definitely one of the most reached for foundations this year!

  •  L’ Oreal Volume Millions de Cils Mascara

Another favourite! This mascara does not clump and gives volume and length to my lashes – the wand is just the right size for me as my eyes are rather small… I use this daily.

  • Max Factor Lipfinity Lip Colour 24Hrs in Caffeinated

The greatest find of the year was definitely the Max Factor Lipfinity Lip Colours which I reviewed over here. These are my go to lipsticks as they last ALL day – their lasting power is seriously amazing! I have 4 shades in all, the ones in the review and Caffeinated which is my favourite of them all.

  • Angled Brush by The Body Shop

The body shop did not have an actual eye brow brush that you could buy on its own. At first I thought this brush would be too wide but I decided to give it a go. It is really sturdy and great to create sharp curves when filling in your brows.

  • Real Techniques Expert Face Brush

I can’t believe I haven’t reviewed Real Techniques brushes yet. I’ll definitely review them in 2017 as I absolutely love them. I’ve had them for over 2 years and have never experienced any shedding. I even bought a set for my sister this Christmas.

I love all of them, both eyes and face but if I had to pick just one, I’d choose the Expert Face Brush. It is dense and gives you the ability to build up your foundation.

  • Peppermint Cooling Foot Spray by The Body Shop

Not quite beauty related but I believe this is also an essential. I don’t wear stilettos very often but when I do, I always end up with a burning sensation at the bottom of my feet. Just before I go into bed I spray this and it instantly soothes that burning feeling. Love it!

  • Eau Thermale Avène Tolerance Extreme Cleansing Lotion

I told you all about the Tolerance range from Eau Thermale Avène. It has been really kind to my skin and changed the way it looks and feels for the better. Read my review of this range over here.

  • Elie Saab le parfum

My all time favourite perfume which I had gotten a few Christmases back. I always tend to reach for it over other perfumes ❤

That’s all for 2016! I hope you enjoyed this post and that you’ll try some of these products next year.

I look forward to writing more blogs posts in 2017… maybe some wedding related ones too as the big day is closer 😉

Have fun and enjoy New Year’s Eve. I wish you all the best for 2017!

Eau Thermale Avène – Tolerance Extreme Range: A review

Dear Ladies,

A while back I told you about what went on at the Eau Thermale Avène and Lierac bloggers’ event. You can read and see snaps from the evening over here. After having used many of the products which I was given religiously, a new post was due.

Eau Thermale Avène is one of Europe’s top dermatology & hydrotherapy brands using active thermal spring water and as few ingredients as possible. The products are aimed to target sensitive skin but can be used by everyone. Avène Thermale Spring water is believed to have healing and calming properties which soothe the skin and prevent it from becoming irritated.

The Tolerance range immediately caught my eye. It is a range that “respects your skin’s physiology” while providing a soothing sensation as well as hydration.

Initially I tried the Tolerance Extreme Cream in Rich Texture. I enjoyed this very much and it is in fact quite rich. Since my face isn’t very dry, it was a bit heavy for me to use in the morning before foundation. I thought it would be better for me to use it as a night cream. That’s when I decided to try the Emlusion (Light Texture) to possibly use in the morning.

I tried the Emulsion and fell in love with its’ consistency. It gets absorbed very quickly without leaving your face feeling greasy. I started applying this daily in the morning before applying my foundation.

As for my evening routine, I have been using the Tolerance Extreme Cleansing Lotion. This is a 200ml tube of goodness! Nothing feels more soothing on your face then this cleanser, after a day at work where the ACs tend to suck in all the moisture! This cleanses all of my make up, including eye-make up and the most stubborn liquid lipsticks. It leaves my face feeling clean and well hydrated.

Following toner application (I wish that there was a toner from Avène!), I apply the Rich Cream in the evening as a moisturizer. It does not feel heavy at night since it has more time to be absorbed and it leaves my skin hydrated up until the moment I wake up.

What I haven’t told you yet is that this range comes with D.E.F.I packaging (Device for Exvlusive Formula Integrity). This packaging ensures that the product remains sterile and no bacteria from the outside gets in. Thanks to this packaging the product can be free from preservatives and is protected throughout the whole use.

There is also a masque in this range which I look forward to purchasing and trying out.

I have been really enjoying this brand and have seen changes in my skin, where it is looking more vibrant and clearer altogether. Ever since I started using Avène products, most days I do not feel like I need to put on foundation as my skin has been looking so much better.

I cannot recommend this brand enough… The products are rich and provide you with all day hydration and no irritation. Most of all it is great to know that you are not putting any “dodgy” ingredients on your skin, including preservatives.

Oh and for you ladies, I have 5 10% off vouchers to be used on Eau Thermale Avène products from selected pharmacies in Malta*. The first 5 of you readers to share this post on their Facebook account will get a voucher 🙂

I hope you enjoyed this post and get sharing!

*Vouchers can only be distributed to readers living in Malta.

Review for Max Factor Lipfinity Lip Colour 24Hrs

Dear Ladies,

A few weeks ago I announced that I will be writing about my favourite liquid lipsticks and then I shared a teaser photo on my Facebook page all.things.lady. (Don’t forget to press ‘Like’ to see all my updates!)

When it comes to liquid lipsticks, I first fell for the ebay hype but found these rather drying. I had also tried one by NYX and another by Rimmel a while back. I have recently also tried Matte Me by Sleek. However I do not think that I’ll be spending money on other brands because I am pretty confident that nothing compares to these lippies by Max Factor.

You will find other liquid lipsticks at a cheaper price, but I don’t think you can compare the quality. These retail at €13.99 but they are totally worth the price tag as you are getting a good quality product which is truly longlasting.

These are the three shades that I have so far. Each lip colour comes with step one which is the colour and step two which is the shine. I usually only use step one as this gives a very long lasting matte colour. But occasionally I do use the shine when I feel like going for a different look.

I find that these lip colours are super long lasting and not at all drying. They do not budge not even after eating or drinking hot coffee as with other liquid lipsticks. These truly stay in place all day long and when I get home after a long day I can still see the lip colour perfectly in place. You need a good makeup remover to take these off.

Here are the swatches of the three shades I have. This is what the shades look like before they dry. By the way, these dry in seconds but still give you enough time to correct any errors.

Swatch no. 1: 350 Essential Brown
Swatch no.2 :125 So Glamorous
Swatch no.3: 180 Spiritual

And here’s what they look like when dry… Right above the colour swatches, I swatched the shine stick.

They have a doe foot applicator which gives you the right precision. I do not usually have time to use lipliner or go round my lips with concealer before going to work… So using the doe foot applicator only, I apply the colour and I’m good to go.

Here are some photos of me wearing these lip colours. I apologize for the quality but I took these early in the morning when I was still sleepy…

180 Spiritual

As I said earlier, these are by far the best liquid lipsticks out there. Without the gloss stick they are completely matte, not drying but not sticky. They do not crack or budge and do not leave any residue on cups and glasses either. When using the shine stick, I noticed that colour is less longlasting but still lasts a good 4-6 hours. It gives a polished glossy look which is always in style. The glossy stick gives you a good 6 hours of hydration.

My only regret is that there are hardly any deep shades in the range but I’m hoping that these will be added soon…

As for shades, I find that Essential Brown is more of a mauvey colour while Spiritual is the perfect brown toned nude. So glamorous is the classic red which, by the way, is as long lasting as the rest – perfect for a Saturday night out with the girls! I can’t get enought of these lipsticks and 390 All Day Seductive is my next one.

That’s all about these babies. Have you ever tried them?
What are you waiting for? 🙂

Review for DeclarĂŠ proyouthing Detox Night Cream

Dear ladies,

Today I will be writing about a skincare product which has recently become part of my routine. A few months ago I blogged about a beauty training seminar I was invited to by Paloma Cosmetics. You can read all about this seminar here. This company has brought Declare to Malta, a high end luxurious Swiss skincare brand.

At the event we were given some good sized sample products with a generous amount of product which allowed me to really test out the product and experience the changes in my skin.

Now that I am officially in my mid-twenties, I had been thinking that it might be time to start using anti aging products to reduce the chance of getting fine lines and wrinkles. I was given this product at the right time!

I have been applying this daily after applying toner. At first I thought this product was greasy, but after a few uses I realised that a little goes a long way with this product and one needs to use much less product than when using other moisturizers. The magical thing about this product is that before applying it, my skin is usually looking dull and tired, but the next day, my skin looks renewed and fresh and gives me just the right boost for the day. This product leaves my skin feeling perfectly hydrated till the morning and I have been applying it religiously.

I’m not sure about the price tag on this one but I know it was a bit pricey. However, after seeing how wonderfully it works on my skin I am considering getting the full sized product.

That’s all from my end. Have you had the pleasure of trying any products by Declare? Give them a go and you’ll love them! I will soon be posting about their stress balance anti irritation serum.

Review for PUPA Milano BB cream for Combination to Oily Skin

Dearest Ladies,

Today I will be reviewing yet another BB Cream by PUPA Milano. I recently received a few products from Medimports, the agents for PUPA Milano here in Malta and was given the option to choose a BB Cream from their range. I chose the BB Cream for Combination to Oily Skin.

I have mentioned the Pupa Milano Professionals BB Cream + Anti-Eta’ in two posts featuring favourite products, in this post here, and here. I have really enjoyed using it and found that it was perfect for everyday use.

I must say that while I like the Anti-Eta’ cream, I prefer the BB Cream for Combination to Oily Skin. It gives a matte effect without having the need to set it. Now my skin is quite on the dry/dehydrated side these days but I still found it to be perfect. While it gives a matte finish, it is not drying at all. Here is a photo of me wearing it (without powder and concealer, to test out its longevity and coverage):

I find that it has a blur effect on my skin and covers up some imperfections. It has a faint smell to it which I don’t mind, even though I usually prefer fragrance free face products. Here’s a swatch of the shade 001 NUDE:

And here’s how it looks after blending it out with my hands.

The only downside to this product is that there are only two shades even though it seems to adapt to one’s skin tone. In fact at first glance I thought the lightest shade was still a tad dark for me but as time went by it seems to have adapted.

This BB Cream has SPF 20 and is oil free which is something I really enjoy.  It is also non-comedogenic and paraben free. It claims to also be a primer but I have never tried it using it in this way.

This product retails at €15.95 and can be found at Evans Pharmacy Qormi and other leading Pharmacies in Malta.

This has become my go to product for whenever I want some coverage but something light on my skin that feels like I have nothing on! It’s a product you must try and I’m very confident you’d love it.

Have you ever used PUPA Milano BB Creams? What are your thoughts about them?

Until my next post…
