My Current Favourites

Dearest Ladies,

Today I’m back with a post about my current favourite products. Some of them might be relatively new in my collection, while others are products that I rediscovered.

Take a look at the products I’m going to mention today…

1

The first product I’m going to mention is one that I had also mentioned in my most recent “Favourite products at the time” post.

Pupa Milano Professionals BB Cream + Anti-Eta’

This product has become my go to product. I use this everyday especially because I usually want something lighter than foundation for everyday but would still like a little bit of coverage. I’m also happy about the fact that it has SPF30. Oh, and it smells fantastic!

2

Clinians HYDRA BASIC Moisturizing Mattifying Face Cream with Apple Water and Zinc

I bought this product on a whim… I urgently needed something moisturizing for my under eyes but as I was looking I saw this face cream and thought it might be a good idea to try it out as well. The product comes in a small glass jar and the cream itself is a pale green. It feels very refreshing on the skin and has a faint fresh smell which I can’t quite put my finger on. I don’t always use this in the morning but when I do, it gets absorbed by the skin rather quickly.

3

ELIE SAAB le parfum

This was a gift… one of those gifts that I hinted for ūüėõ I had tried a tester of this perfume and totally fell in love with it and then came the next Christmas or Birthday… and as I had hoped, I got it as a present. I’m not very good at describing perfumes but I can say that it has a sophisticated scent.

4

I strongly suggest that you go to your closest perfumery and try this out especially if you want to give a loved one a gift they’ll enjoy.

Essence lipliner  shade: 11 in the nude

I apologize but I couldn’t photograph this one well because the text is starting to wear off off the pencil. This is a very basic nude lipliner which I am currently really enjoying using on its own. Stays on for quite a while and looks just right with my skintone. I will definitely try to take a picture the next time I wear it. Oh, and since it was from essence I’m sure it was a steal!

Essence liquid ink eyeliner

I thought I’d give this a try after having seen many bloggers saying good things about it. It has a simple brush applicator that does the job well and is easy to use if you want detail and precision. While I have never tried it myself, there is also the waterproof version of this which comes in blue/black packaging.

5

6

KIKO Milano Soft Focus Concealer in shade: 02

I bought this when I was abroad as I had ran out or forgotten to take concealer. I remember the salesman putting it on me after a day full of shopping. I was tired and this definitely gave my undereyes a little wake me up. It’s a pretty regular concealer, nothing out of this world but it does the job. Reminds me of the¬†Catrice Re-Touch Light Reflecting¬†Concealer since the packaging is identical except that for this one you press the bottom of the pen instead of twisting it.

7

8

e.l.f. Contouring Blush and Bronzing Powder

I had this for ages and at the moment I am going through a phase where I’m trying not to buy any new makeup unless I really have to. I have therefore ran out of most of my blushes and decided to give this a try once again. I actually love the blusher. I am not usually keen on shimmer but it doesn’t bother me in this one and I have been using it daily. In a way it¬†highlights the face as well.

I haven’t been using the bronzing powder it comes with because it is also shimmery which is something I’m not sure I can live with.

10

P.S. This is the first one e.l.f. had. If I remember correctly, after this one they had a range of similar duos in different shades and some of them were cream products.

MAC lipstick in JIST

11

This is by far my most favourite lipstick in my collection. It is the only MAC one but is always the one that saves the day. When I am in doubt about what colour to go for, I go for this. It’s perfect with a dark smokey eye look. This is a frost lipstick and I think goes very well with my complexion especially now that my hair is more coppery toned.

That’s all I have to say for today! I hope you found this post helpful especially if you are looking for something in particular which I happened to mention.

P.S. Here is my updated self in cartoon thanks to Bitstrips. Yes, I wear glasses now!

Do you use any of these products? Which ones do you like and which ones not so much?
I’d love to hear about it in the comment section.

Love,
M.

Most used products in 2014

Dearest Ladies,

I hope January is being kind to you and I wish you luck if January means you have exams coming up!

Over the past year, I haven’t written many reviews so I thought I would list a number of products which I enjoyed last year and used religiously. I tried to include a bit of everything to get a general idea of what I liked. These were my go to products last year:

  • ¬†NYX HD Studio Photogenic Foundation in 02 Soft Beige
  • Vivo Blush with Highlighter duo in Shade 3 Sweet Peach
  • MAC Frost lipstick in Jist A23
  • Pupa Milano I’m Lipstick in 308 Burgundy
  • Wjcon Lasting colour stick eyeshadow in tiger eye 04
  • Wjcon Lasting colour stick eyeshadow in rose quartz 03
  • Revlon Grow Luscious Mascara
  • Essence longlasting eye pencil in 01 black fever
  • e.l.f. Makeup Remover pen
  • e.l.f. Small Angled Brush (for eyebrows)
  • Real Techniques Expert Face Brush (+ most of their core collection and starter set)
  • Pupa Milano Lasting Colour Gel nail polish (I don’t have this one’s number)
  • Pupa Milano Lasting Colour Gel nail polish in 026¬†California Soul
  • Pupa Milano Gel Top Coat
  • K Co Brow Powder

And to start with Face products…

NYX HD Studio Photogenic Foundation in 02 Soft Beige

I have been using this foundation for over a year. I like it because it matches my skin tone perfectly, is light weight but gives good coverage. Definitely worth a try!

Real Techniques Expert Face Brush (+ most of their core collection and starter set)

While I love my e.l.f. brushes (I’ve written all about them here), I think I prefer the Real Techniques brushes as I have never had any shedding and I have had them for almost 2 years. I think out of all of them, my favourite is the Expert face brush (which is NOT in the core collection). From the eye set, my favourites have to be the Deluxe Crease Brush and the Base Shadow Brush which is really soft and fluffy.

Vivo Blush with Highlighter duo in Shade 3 Sweet Peach

I love this blush for everyday use and I have finally hit pan. I have nothing similar to this shade and I find that it is quite natural and fits my complexion. I must say that I have so gotten used to this blush, that when I wore a different one, I thought it looked strange on my face. While I love it, I look forward to finishing it so that I move on to other blushes that I haven’t used yet.

And now for Eye products…

Wjcon Lasting colour stick eyeshadow in tiger eye 04 and rose quartz 03

I must say that I really love these products. I use them when I am in a hurry but still want to look like I made an effort. With just these two shadow, I manage to create a simple smokey eye which is wearable day and night. If you want to read more about why I love eyeshadow sticks, click here.

Essence longlasting eye pencil in 01 black fever

This is my go to eyeliner. I have never tried an eyeliner that is better than this especially for applying on the waterline. This doesn’t smudge and I have rather teary eyes but I have never had any problems with this. It’s also really affordable.

e.l.f. Small Angled Brush and K Co Brow Powder

This is a combination of products which I use every single day. I love the brush because it is small enough to give me control over my very thin brows. I also love the brow powder and I have written about it here.

Revlon Grow Luscious Mascara

This is a fantastic mascara. I have very short and light lashes and this manages to give me length, volume and darkness with just a couple of coats. It has a big wand and has normal bristles (it is not made out of plastic or silicone). If you have tiny lashes but like them to show more and in a lovely volumized way, try this out.

e.l.f. Makeup Remover pen

This is a lifesaver when you ruin your liquid eyeliner. It solves the problem instantly and cleans your face up nicely! Definitely a must have! You can get it off the e.l.f. website and I have a hunch that it was actually cheaper on iherb.

And now, Lips…

MAC Frost lipstick in Jist A23

I love this lipstick. It is my first MAC lipstick and the colour is really one of a kind. It has an orange tinge to it which seems to look good with my skin tone. I wear this almost everytime I have a formal occasion as it is quite dressy.

Pupa Milano I’m Lipstick in 308 Burgundy

I had been looking for a dark red lipstick and then Pupa Milano Malta¬†sent me three of their I’m lipsticks. Out of the three, this is my favourite and I have used it quite a bit over the holidays.

And finally, Nail polish…

Pupa Milano Lasting Colour Gel nail polish (Red)

This is a lovely red polish which I have used regularly this year. It was given to me by Pupa Milano Malta and I have really enjoyed it as to me it is the perfect red for a nail polish. I’ve always used this with the Pupa Milano Gel Top Coat as without it, it didn’t last as long.

Pupa Milano Lasting Colour Gel nail polish in 026 California Soul

I actually got this quite recently from Sicily. You can read more about what I got from Sicily here. I haven’t used it much in 2014 simply because I got it in December, but I will definitely use it up this year. This is how it looked on my nails after 9 days, thanks to the¬†Pupa Milano Gel Top Coat. I was given the top coat by Pupa Milano Malta and have always used it with these polishes. It is incredible how long nail polish lasts using this combination of products.

That’s all from my 2014 favourites! Do we have any in common? What have you enjoyed using last year? Let me know in the comment section.

Until the next post…

Love,
M.

5 things you would like about EYESHADOW STICKS

Dearest Ladies,

Today I’ll be talking about a particular product; a product which for some reason might not be your first choice. If that is the case, my assumption is that you’re just used to using the ‘traditional form’ of eyeshadow – I’m gonna show you just how much simpler and easier these products will make your makeup application!

Warning: You might want to try these after reading this post!

My Wjcon lasting colour stick eyeshadow: Rose Quartz 03, Tiger Eye 04, Turquoise 08

My e.l.f. Jumbo Eyeshadow Sticks

The PUPA Milano Long Lasting Eye Stylo in 004 Meteorite Green (Limited Edition)

I am talking about¬†Eyeshadow Sticks¬†(a.k.a Jumbo eyeshadow pencils and eye stylos). These are the ones I own and I will be comparing them to the ‘traditional from’, i.e. powder eyeshadow (loose/pressed/baked). This is why these sticks can be¬†better¬†than the eyeshadow you already have. I’ll also be comparing the brands (PUPA Milano, Wjcon and e.l.f.) in¬†another¬†post.

Here are all.things.lady‘s 5 reasons why you should get (at least one) eyeshadow stick/s.

They are:

  1. Clean and Tidy

I’ll start by stating the obvious: Loose eyeshadow can be messy… But, even pressed (compact) eyeshadow can be messy at times. It varies from one brand to the other depending on the quality. Stick eyeshadow, on the other hand, is the complete opposite: Mess free. You couldn’t make a mess using these products, not even if you tried really hard ūüėõ

The packaging is usually very sturdy, so no lids will break (there aren’t any), and no shadows will break (these are not pressed). No… nothing like that. You can be as clumsy as you are (I know I am…) and drop them 10 times a day, it won’t ruin your product!

  2. Travel Friendly

Because of the type of packaging, these products are the perfect ‘candidates’ to carry¬†in your handbag. You should not have any problems when it’s really hot outside… And the good thing is that if the product does melt a little bit, still: no problem there – you’ll actually be able to blend it more easily. (Don’t leave it on the bbq in summer… that is kinda pushing it :D)

The truth is that you do not even need to carry an eyeshadow/blending brush. ¬†We have enough crap in our over-sized bags as it is! All you need is your ring finger… But I’ll tell you more about this in point #4.

  3. Very long-lasting

Depending on the brand, these products tend to be very long lasting. The last time I used a combination of them, I put my make up on at around 2pm, and it was still perfect by 11pm – honestly, I didn’t even need to retouch it once. Mind you, I walked in the sun for over half an hour…

Obviously, having a good eye make up remover is always a must. I use Clinians, but I’ve run out, I’m using Nivea till I repurchase, (which is good but Clinians is even better. Read my Nivea review here.) In most cases you won’t even need a primer, but when using a primer you are always on the safe side.

  4. Much Simpler

It’s not a case of being lazy. It’s a case of being practical. We don’t afford spending over half an hour daily¬†applying makeup. We usually have a lot less than half an hour to get ready for school or work! And well… what do we do? We mostly use it for special occasions, cause that’s ¬†the only time we have enough time to perfect our make up.

When blending, the heat of your own fingers makes the product warm up. This makes it easier and quicker than using brushes.

  5. Versatile

With just one eyeshadow stick, you can already create a good, polished look. If you want to mix it up, you can also use 2 or more and blend the colours well.

They can be used on their own and in most cases you won’t even need to set them. Some ladies choose to use them¬†as a base to their powder eyeshadow. This creates a lovely blend of colours and will make your powder eyeshadow look even more vibrant.¬†You can also play with these using an eyeliner brush for a fun coloured eyeliner. Some of them are actually marketed as stylos i.e. both an eyeshadow and an eyeliner.

I hope I gave you enough reasons to get at least 1 eyeshadow stick. I promise, if you choose the right brands, you will like them. And with these babies, your everyday makeup will be more fun and more colourful. You can still sleep those extra 5 minutes; you can apply these products in seconds. Add a little bit of mascara and you’re always good to go ūüėČ

Good luck! Tell me your experiences with shadow sticks – as you know, I’d love know ūüôā

Storage Space for Everyday Makeup

Dearest Ladies,

My friend picked me up today and we ran some errands. She needed to buy some make up storage, you know the acrylic clear ones. I didn’t need any… But you know me, and organisation never hurt anyone, right? Consider this post as my Favourite of the Week. Some past posts of this kind are this and this which will be linked later on.

IMAG0614

And there it is! I cost ‚ā¨15.95 from Homemate and me and Sarah (from My Place in the Kitchen) discussed which one/s to get cause there were lots of different ones and different sizes too! We agreed this was the best one for our needs after some time and by the way, the top part can be separated from the little drawers, so it makes it a little bit more handy. Sarah got two, to fit most of her stuff in, and I got one to fit in my everyday make up (and a little big more!)

IMAG0617

I blurred the photo and it looks weird, but I had a creepy face which I will spare you all from seeing! Just look at how much it can actually hold! There are a number of brushes (Real Techniques) which I use every day, my eyebrow/lash brushes (from e.l.f), foundation (from Bourjois), primers (from Catrice and Wjcon), mascara (by Bourjois which I reviewed here) and a number of lipsticks on top, including my new favourite Lip Cream by NYX. In the first drawer I have my MUA Loose Powder (which I reviewed here), concealer which I do not use daily, and the Natural Glow by K Co which I got from London.IMAG0618The second drawer has some single eye shadows, a couple of blushers and the Jumbo Eyeshadow sticks from e.l.f, as well as a Wjcon one. All in all, it fits more than the essentials for every day make up. God forbid I needed all this every single day! I actually use less and less products every day, especially now that it is getting very hot in Malta. I might actually do a summer make up look soon, using, the bare minimum, so stay tuned for that! P.S. That red thing you see on the side is a beauty blender dupe, it’s working, but it is cracking and I only used it 3 times! I will review it and compare it with the original Beauty Blender which I got from London but haven’t used yet.

Earlier this year I showed you my LIDL make up storage space, which you can see and read all about here. That one holds the rest of my stuff, especially the things I only reach for sometimes, but definitely not everyday. Oh, and this is my nail polish collection right here. Let me warn you, ¬†I am obsessed, but I haven’t broken the ban yet ūüėČ

Do you like my new storage space? Quite handy and neat, right? Would you go for something similar?

I’ll be back tomorrow.

Love,
M.
