Office wear – How to look effortlessly smart

Dear Ladies,

Ever since I have started my full time job, I have started to wake up everyday with the same dilemma:
What am I gonna wear?!

Owning some key pieces can make your life easier and these can be reused in various outfits. In my experience, when working in an office you need to a few basics such as:

  • A few dresses
  • Tailored pants
  • Pencil Skirt
  • A few shirts
  • Court Shoes
  • Watch
  • A handbag that goes with everything!

I drew up outfits for everyday of the week just to give you an idea… As you can see, with basic key pieces you can look smart everyday.

Monday

Monday is the hardest, isn’t it? Start the week with a simple outfit. Choose a non-iron dress the day before and you’re good to go. Court shoes make you smart but with that in mind, I would look for the most comfortable pair of shoes possible. I got a chunkier heel with an orthopedic sole and it was the best choice I ever made when it comes to shoes. One of the hairstyles can always be the bun – makes you look tidy and is a good solution when you are in between washes.

Investing in a pair of tailored pants is vital. They are so smart and rather versatile. In summer, trousers also a good idea for those few days before you get waxed. As for earrings, I like to keep it simple and tidy and for this I think stud earrings are the best choice.

Wednesday

The pencil skirt is another staple if you work in an office (see what I did there? :P). All the shirts/tops you wear with the tailored pants can be then reused in outfits with a pencil skirt. The look would be completely different and a skirt gives a more feminine touch.

Thursday

Once again I chose the tailored pants as they are the most comfortable in my opinion. Stuck with the stud earrings but played it up a little with a detailed collar top. A little pop of colour when including blue.

Friday

There are some days when you opt for ultimate comfort and ballerina shoes come in play. As for hairstyles, it is a good idea to change from day to day, keeping it simple not to take too long to get ready. A bun, a pony tail, braids and loose hair with accent accessories is the way to go.

As for handbags, I only use one – I managed to find a 3-tone bag which (in my opinion) goes with everything. I wouldn’t suggest changing your bag everyday… Let’s just say that I’m too lazy to do it – But if you’re not, go ahead!

When it comes to colours, I kept it simple as these are more or less the colours we are allowed to wear since I work in front office. Depending on your job, you can play it up and be more adventurous with colours and patters.

These outfits have nothing out of the ordinary and these pieces can be found from any store at average prices. Coming to think of it, it’s not all that hard to choose what to wear to the office once you have the right numbers.

That’s all from my side… I hope you found this helpful and do let me know if you have any more tricks to always look smart at the place of work!

Love,
M.

Oh, and I always wear a watch, but that’s just me  🙂

Outfit Post – Sunday Lunch

Dearest Ladies,

As I said on my Facebook page (don’t forget to like), it will be difficult for me to post regularly especially in the next 6 weeks since I am on a work placement. But here is something simple which didn’t take a lot of my time…

Today I will share with you an outfit post showing you what I wore yesterday to Sunday lunch with the family. I asked my mum to take my pictures but as you can note, we are still looking for a better spot to take photos for outfit posts. Truth is every spot in the house is full of stuff and the only nice clear wall is in an area with no light!

Here’s what I wore to her birthday lunch:

Dress: Orsay
Belt: Kiabi
Snood: Pieces (through asos.com)
Bag: Parfois
Shoes: Random shop in Fgura 🙂

That’s all from my end. I hope you liked this outfit and I’d really love it if you suggested other ways I can make this look work 😉 Especially the bag… I find it hard to combine with outfits because of its shape!

Love,
M.

What I wear to uni

Ladies,

(Yes, I still exist!)
I miss you (and I feel guilty that I haven’t been writing) but UNI work is taking up most a lot of my time. You are still (always) on my mind, I promise you! My draft posts have never been so abundant, it’s just harder to find time to finish and publish them now.

Anyway…

Since I did mention Uni… here’s something about me and my university life. This is more or a confession.

I am not going to pretend that I plan my outfits in advance (on a daily basis) – I don’t.

When I ‘m at uni I usually only care about one thing: comfort. It might be a tad lazy of me to wear ‘the first thing that I find’, but it’s all (I say) I have time for. I know that a little bit more effort could make me feel better (about myself), throughout the day… But truth be told, especially after a long day, I only want to wake up to wearing trainers and jeans.

This is the sort of thing you might see me in, when I’m on campus:

What I wear to uni

I don’t have anything against those who do find the time to choose the perfect outfit, do full make up (daily!), wear heels, and accessorize. It’s really up to them and I (sometimes, secretly) admire them. However, I still don’t understand the need for it. I would rather have those extra few minutes in bed, but that’s just me! And if I had to be completely honest, I don’t feel that it’s that important to me to look perfectly polished at a lecture.

(I still enjoy the ‘getting ready’, and the ‘getting dressed’ part for every other occasion, but no, not for uni purposes!)

As I said, it might be lazy of me. But it’s true… I only care once in a while – Sometimes I do make an effort, and I do look better (and therefore feel better). I just don’t do it daily… I prefer to be practical and get the hell out of the house to try to be on time (it’s hard enough as it is!).

I’m not going to lie and say that I never feel that I look like crap (I’m very hard on myself in that way), but I rarely look at a mirror once I arrive and start my day.

With regards to make up, again, I keep it simple.

  1. I don’t want to over do it.
  2. I don’t want to look ‘too polished’
  3. I don’t usually feel like getting all dolled up…
  4. WHEN I DO – I’d arrive late… cause then I’d want a to have ‘perfect’ makeup.

I go for a simple: (Powder) + (Blusher) + Eyeliner + Mascara but these are optional – the only constant is Mascara, it’s the one thing I always have to wear.

There it is, my confession! I did not sugarcoat it… that’s just how I feel considering all the work that I usually have on my mind. I’d rather worry about that than my looks.

Do say hi if you see me around on campus!
I might be looking like crap, but I’m always friendly 🙂

Don’t forget to also follow me on Facebook for daily updates

Love,
M.

P.S. Be on the look out! Lots of Anatomicals’ reviews to be posted shortly 😉

Would you rather…

Dearest Ladies,

I hope the week is being kind to you! I am finally feeling more relaxed, and I can focus all of my energy on an exam which I will be sitting for soon, and on my dissertation! (Yay…) But I will be blogging in my deserved breaks 🙂

Today I have something different for you… It’s actually a really fun post which I saw on The Oxford Owl, which is another blog  I have discovered just this week! I will be answering a number of “Would you rather” questions which were provided! 🙂 I really hope you enjoy reading my answers and feel free to answer it on your blog and share the link in the comment section below!

Here we go…

1. Would you rather lose all your mascaras, eyeliners, lipsticks and lip glosses or lose all of your palettes and eyeshadows?

I would rather lose eyeshadows and palettes. I can make a look work without they anyway, but I cannot do much with JUST eyeshadow 🙂 I don’t have any glosses to lose anyway but with just mascara, eyeliner and lipstick, I can still pull off a decent look, and so can you!

This is one of my simplest, everyday looks (no eyeshadow was used!): Click Me!

Simple and Natural!

2. Would you rather chop off all your hair or never be able to cut it again?

I would rather chop it all off! After all it will grow back IF I choose this option.

P.S. I did chop all of my hair off, a number of times – and I’ll probably do it again!
But I’m in the ‘long-hair’ phase now and I kinda like it 🙂

Blast from the past:

3-4 years ago 🙂

Short…

me being ‘funny’ and a chicken nugget – approx 5 years ago!

3. Would you rather have a coral cheek or a pink cheek?

That’s a weird question, isn’t it? Who cares? haha
But if I HAVE To choose, probably coral – I might need lighter coloured hair and blue eyes to go with it though 😛

4. If you had 1,000$ to spend, would you rather buy clothes or makeup?

Probably clothes… But if I had the option (which I don’t), I would be boring and save it – I’m saving up for a number of things at the moment, I’ll let you know all about it in due time 😉

5. Would you rather apply lipstick as eyeliner or eyeliner as lipstick?

I would rather not do any of these… :O
I think lipstick is usually too creamy to be worn on the lids, unless it’s a matte lipstick and is therefore a tad drier. I guess I’d wear eyeliner as lipstick if I HAD TO – I hope I won’t have to…

6. Would you rather only shop at MAC or Sephora?

Both are quite awesome, right? I’ve shopped at MAC when in London and I liked their items so much… So if I HAVE TO choose just one, I’d try the brand I have already tried. I’m almost sure I’ll like Sephora too though… :/

I got the little bath tub from Sephora – but I didn’t get any products…

7. Would you rather only use one eyeshadow color or one lip color for the rest of your life?

Well if I have a neutral lipstick, I can do any look with it… and with just black eyeshadow, there are still a number of things you can do. This is tough, but I choose ONE lipstick, just in case I feel like something different on my eyes.

8. Would you rather wear winter clothes in the summer or summer clothes in winter?

Neither. But, winter clothes in summer – I’d rather be a bit sweaty then shiver to death! 🙂

9. Would you rather have dark nails or bright nails all year round?

Well… I’d say nude is better but it’s neither dark nor bright. So I choose Dark. If I chose Bright, it would be a Red shade… but what if I get fed up of it? I get fed up of my nail polish colour twice weekly 😛

As you know, I am a bit obsessed – click this link if you forgot how obsessed I am:  I am obsessed.

10. Would you rather give up your favorite lip product or your favorite eye product?

I’d give up my favourite lip product. That can be replaced, favourite eye product(s), not so much!

11. Would you rather only be able to wear your hair in a ponytail or a messy bun?

A messy bun if it’s Summer time – I’d need to learn how to do it though. I can only wear my hair in a neat bun, using the donut! (See tutorial here)

12. Would you rather never be able to paint your nails again or never use lip gloss?

Lipgloss – I don’t use it anyway!

13. Would you rather shave your eyebrows and have none at all or Sharpie them in everyday?

Erm… My brows are naturally a too thin, and it’s not cause I over pluck. I would love to improve their shape, but a Sharpie Permanent Marker? :O Still, it’s better than no brows at all, I guess! I’ll see if I can make it work, but it’s ‘permanent’!

14. Would you rather live without makeup or nailpolish?

This is hard… I need make up more than I need nail polish. Well, NEED is not a good word… Make up gives me a boost, it enhances my features. So yes, I can look a lot better with makeup, and well, I CAN live withOUT nail polish – It’ll make me make sure my nails look naturally great 😉

I really hope you liked this post 🙂 I’m off to another date with my dear boyfriend – check out what I wore to the last one by clicking here: OOTD – Date Night + Handbag Tag

It’s finally SUSHI night again 😀

Love,

M

I really hope I do not have any dumb mistakes, I’m soon heading out and I didn’t have time to proofread this one – OOPS! I just wanted to post it,  cause if I postpone… well, you know what happens! Forgive me if I have sinful typos and such.

OOTD – Date Night + Handbag Tag

Dearest Ladies,

I have an OOTD for you today, but it’s also a tag post from the lovely “Mammu” 🙂 She tagged me forever ago, but it was still on my “blog-posts-to-write” list. I’m talking about the “What’s in my date night purse?” tag post. This is her original post.

Me and my boyfriend have rather busy lives. He has his band (see their photo-shoot here), his teaching job and a full-time job – I have my studies, my dissertation, my blog and a few other things. It is therefore important for us to make time for each other. So yesterday, we went to an Indian restaurant – it was our first time trying the cuisine. We loved the food and wine and it was a really perfect date night.

I decided on the same bag that I wore in this ootd post, I got it from ASOS a while ago. I was going for the “New Look Clutch Bag 1”, shown in one of my first posts. But, while I love that bag, it is so small, it’s stressful – it’s too hard to fit all you really need in it. I borrowed one of my sister’s dresses (from New Look) and I wore it over sandals which I bought (and only wore) for a wedding.

IMG_5791

This is all the crap that managed to fit in my bag:

  • My Phone
  • Tissues
  • My Keys (with my sizable key chains)
  • A Camera
  • A Catrice Lipstick (mentioned in a favourite’s post)
  • A box of Daygum Chewing gum
  • My ID Card

IMG_5796

Yes, you might be wondering why I did not take my purse with me… For starters, it’s rather large, and secondly, this was my boyfriend’s treat. He saw me struggling to put it in the bag, and he reminded me that that was the deal from the beginning 🙂

IMG_5794

I hope you like this look! I will try to post more regularly but as I said, it’s been a hectic couple of months.

Love,
M.
